About Community Church of New Thought

Q. What is New Thought?
A. New Thought is an American metaphysical spiritual philosophy that is approximately 150 years old. There are about two thousand New Thought churches, groups and centers nationwide, which include Unity churches, Religious Science churches, Divine Science churches and independent New Thought churches such as Community Church of New Thought.

Q. What is taught in New Thought?
A. Most New Thought churches and centers base their teachings on some understanding of the thread of universal truth that runs through all great religions. At Community Church of New Thought we teach this universal philosophy as follows: 1. There is one infinite, all-inclusive, living intelligence beyond and within all creation. 2. We are spiritual beings having a human experience and we share the nature of the infinite God that created us. 3. We live as co-creators with God in a friendly, supportive, and loving spiritual universe. 4. The ultimate destiny of humanity is to reunite in heart and mind with the One that created us out of Itself.

Q. Is New Thought Christian?
A. In some New Thought denominations, New Thought is considered practical or applied Christianity because it puts into practice the essential metaphysical teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. At Community Church of New Thought, we affirm expression of spiritual principles in loving one another, promoting the highest good for all, teaching and healing one another, ministering to one another, and living together in peace, in accordance with the teachings of Jesus and other enlightened teachers.

Q. What does Community Church of New Thought offer?
A. Besides an enriching Sunday celebration service, Community Church of New Thought offers a Sunday adult education class, the Lola Pauline Mays New Thought School of Ministry, spiritual counseling, christenings, baptisms, weddings, memorials, prayer ministry, pastoral ministry and facilities to host support groups.

Q. How does Community Church of New Thought serve the greater community?
A. Through its regular programs and activities, Community Church of New Thought empowers and touches the lives of many people every week. We collect and donate non-perishable food, clothing, toiletries, furniture and household items for homeless parents and children to La Mesita, a local family shelter that provides temporary emergency housing, employment readiness training, childcare, and services to help families with minor aged children become self-reliant.

Q. Why should I become a member of Community Church of New Thought?
A. Membership is a way of belonging to our spiritual community and identifying with the New Thought way of life. Great strength and support can be found in becoming part of a community of like-minded people. Community Church of New Thought's members continually report that joining and embracing the philosophy has made a significant positive difference in their lives.
